Ice accretion on surfaces is a major economic concern in the energy and transportation industries, particularly due to need of frequent maintenance. In contrast traditional de-icing approaches involving use electrical, mechanical, chemical or combinatorial approach, icephobic inspired by nature more environmentally friendlier solution. Understanding fundamentals interaction liquid with solid at low temperatures core this topic which motivated review. While shedding light ice nucleation kinetics surfaces, review provides an overview icephobicity provide pathway repurpose superhydrophobic for their as surfaces.
